Gliding Through Life: Right Understanding & Finding Your Inner Stillness

Hello everyone,

It certainly is a beautiful day to continue our journey into the profound teachings of Zen.

If you’ve been tuning into my show, Zen and the Art of NLP, you know that our ultimate goal is to help you achieve a lot more success with a lot less stress. Today, we are delving into the very first step of the Noble Eightfold Path: Right Understanding and the Illusion of Reality.

When you get this right, you will glide through life like a swan on a calm lake. But when perception gets distorted, life can feel like you’re trapped inside an out-of-control wheelie bin in a storm. Let’s make sure you’re gliding.

Beyond Duality: What is Right Understanding?

Right Understanding lays the intellectual and experiential foundation for our entire path toward liberation from suffering. It is often described as seeing the world with completely clear eyes—free from the distortions, dilutions, and delusions of our modern world.

We live in an era where we are bombarded by artificial intelligence and digital influencers, making it harder than ever to know what reality truly is. Zen teaches us a profound truth: we only live in about 1% of true reality, and nothing is ever quite as it seems. By recognizing the impermanence of all things, we can let go of our attachments to fleeting pleasures and navigate life’s inevitable ups and downs with deep serenity.

For more insights on developing this mindset and a guided meditation, you can watch the full session on my YouTube channel here:

Take the Next Step on Your Journey

If you want to dive deeper into these practices and learn how to quiet the incessant, overcritical demands of the conscious mind, I invite you to read my book, The Zen Doctor’s Prescription: Finding Stillness in a Hurrying World.

It is designed as a practical, step-by-step guide to help you cultivate a life of harmony, compassion, and peak performance amidst the busyness of the modern world.

Keep busy, make massive progress on your projects, and most importantly of all, have almost too much fun this week!

To your success and serenity,

Doc Steve
